KINTSUGI

Kin {gold} Tsugi {joinery} is the Japanese art of mending broken pottery with gold.

A world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection — a way of living life with an authentic appreciation for the beauty to be found in what is, just as it is; wabi sabi.

Bio:

Jen (she/her) is a self-taught Kintsugi enthusiast who began experimenting with the craft in 2017. She began teaching Kintsugi in 2020. Since then, she has been refining her teaching method to be accessible and approachable. She strives to have each participant leave with a Kintsugi piece they love—this is why she makes the pieces her participants break. Her method does not use epoxy and balances the sentiment of traditional Kintsugi techniques with modern day materials (and time). Jen has taught the Kintsugi method in various formats including one-day workshops, overnight retreats, and private events.

Workshop description:

During workshops led by Jen, participants will safely break a piece of pottery and then mend it using a modern kintsugi technique. By the end, each person will have crafted their own kintsugi piece of art to take home.

All materials will be provided and all levels are welcome. Participants are welcome to bring in additional pieces for repair. Jen can make a "diagnosis" of the piece to see if it's a good candidate for repair. Depending on the timing of the workshop, participants may have time to complete the repair on their additional pieces.

While materials are non-toxic and non-staining, please don’t wear anything precious. Participants are welcome to bring a notebook and pen, water bottle and water, and any additional artisan tools you may want to use.
